DNA Helix at the Lawrence Hall of Science

On my annual trip to the San Francisco Bay Area this month, I took my four-year-old to the Lawrence Hall of Science, part of the University of California, Berkeley. On the plaza, they have a huge DNA sculpture for kids to climb on and explore. (Click on the images to see a larger version.)

Charles Brown has some amazing aerial views of the DNA sculpture taken by flying his camera on a kite!

U.C. Davis has a huge double helix in their newest building (surrounded by a staircase). If I’m not mistaken, it actually codes for something, but I can’t remember what.

Hsien, this is so funny: I was just at the Lawrence Hall of Science a few weeks ago with my daughter and took a similar picture, although it was so foggy the helix looked like it was emerging from a cloud!

Brian: Found it! It’s a Roger Berry 1998 sculpture called Portrait of a DNA Sequence. Very pretty.

Lisa: Heavy symbolism there….
