Eli Lilly Employees’ DNA Won’t Be Used Against Them

Eli Lilly employees can breathe a sigh of relief. Company policy now states that employees’ genetic make-up “won’t be used against them.“* But while Lilly claims to be the first healthcare company to have this policy, IBM announced the same gene-blind policy for determining health care and benefits eligibility in October 2005.
Ironically, this story was accompanied by an ad for IBM at IndyStar.com.
*Assuming they haven’t commited any crimes, of course.
Updated on May 11, 2007 to add link to Eli Lilly press release and claim of being the first healthcare company to have a non-genetic discrimination policy.
