Grand Rounds 3:39 is up at code blog. Geena’s inner advice columnist, Henrietta the Healthcare Worker, is hard at work this week. A great follow-up to the Ask Harriette question about DNA paternity testing I featured over the weekend.- Liz at Sucessful Blog named me a Successful and Outstanding Blogger. I’m honored.
- Nina at The Alien Next Door graced me with a Thinking Blogger Award. I do try very hard to think even if the thoughts are muddled up sometimes. Thanks, Nina!
- Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) does not appear to increase the risk of genetic disorders including birth defects and malformations. In a Belgium study, 563 of 583 PGD babies were born alive and were comparable to babies born after other forms of IVF.
- Bob Barker of The Price is Right retired and his microphone was sold for $19,000 to a Minnesota radio show host who says that he’s had offers to extract Bob Barker’s DNA from saliva that might have dried on the microphone.

Is 500 nearly enough babies to make a statistical analysis? How did they eval the genomes of these kids? What I would like to see is an analysis and standardization of culture media. I think we should be wary of the long term changes/epigenetics here.

Steve, Are you saying you’re concerned about the health of children born after IVF and PGD? Would you recommend parents to avoid these procedures if at all possible?
I feel like this is deja vu coming by to congratualate you for being an SOB!
Thank you thank you! We’ve definitely got a history together.
