• Dr. Ramunas at the Cancer Genetics blog is hosting Gene Genie #15.
• Thank you to the University of the Mediterranean Biology Department for adding headlines from The DNA Network to their homepage.
• DNA Network member Thomas Goetz at Epidemix exchanged emails with Paul Schliekelman about the genetic basis of resistance to infectious disease.



• Chemicals called obesogens that affect gene expression (epigenetics) leading to “hungry” fat cells may be partly responsible for the epidemic of obesity. (via Knight Science Journalism Tracker)
• Congratulations to Dr. Terri Beaty, one of my former professors from Hopkins, who received funding from the NIH Genes, Environment and Health Initiative for the International Consortium to Identify Genes and Interactions Controlling Oral Clefts.
• A rip-roaring funny in The Telegraph by Oliver Pritchett about a genome in the garden of England.

  This year, once again, we will be entering the contest for the Best Kept Village DNA Database. Now that there is no stigma attached to having one’s DNA stored, the competition is even stiffer. Please make sure you have given your sample to Mr Hodgkin of the Neighbourhood Watch as we need a 100 per cent turnout.

  Our Sunday School team leader Wendy is having a great success on the networking website YouGene where friends post their DNA codes. She now has 235 ‘friends’. Check her out.
