To stimulate breakthrough innovation in the field of genomic sequencing, the X PRIZE Foundation has launched a global competition with a $10 million prize to the first privately funded team that can sequence 100 human genomes in 10 days. That’s pretty cool. I can’t wait for the day when medicine is actually designed to make people healthier and perhaps even cure the causes of disease rather than expensively treating the disease because it makes more money. I don’t know if genomics will make this possible, or likely, but it’s somewhat of a step in the right direction.
