I will be in West Haven CT in 2 weeks teaching some genetics to several groups of High School Students. The biggest problem these teachers have is finding qualified professionals to come into t heir calss and help them. It makes me ask myself....where in the hell are all of the MD and PhD geneticists?

The first time I can remember was working in a hospital. I'm sure I was exposed to genetics before that, but I knew I couldn't pronounce DNA until I was out of high school, lol.

"My elementary school didn’t have much of a science education curriculum let alone labs where we could try to extract DNA or practice RFLP DNA fingerprinting. So I was left to my own devices without even the Internet to help me do research! *GASP*"

Mine didn't have much in the way of science either. Remember back in the day when to write something for school we had to look it up in an - encyclopedia? Its amazing now, thinking about how outdated everything in print is, by the time it gets there - much less in those old encyclopedias our school had.

My first educational experience with genetics?

I remember being in the 6th grade and our teacher had assigned us to read a section in our science books about Mendel and his pea pods. I think I might have been one of the very few that did. The teacher was really mad and threw a fit!
